In case you didn’t know (or forgot, in which case consider this a friendly reminder), NessAlla Kombucha celebrates its tenth trip around the Sun this year. Since setting out on that voyage, we’ve undergone tremendous growth and change. Vanessa and Alla wanted to communicate this transformation with a new identity. Whole Lotta Love The updated logotype is a nod to poster design and lettering from the 1920s and 1970s with a dash of inspiration from soft-drink and beer logos. It’s a Living Thing Boochie – aka the NessAlla “mascot” – received a makeover. She’s still ecstatic, bold and welcoming, but updated with a more realistic human figure. After all, kombucha is a living thing, and Boochie is too. She’s a Rainbow NessAlla Kombucha has always been loud and proud. Our new labels feature bold design elements and vibrant colorways. When lined up on store shelves in rainbow formation, the NessAlla Kombucha bottles jump out and catch one’s eye. Look for the new bottles at a grocery store or co-op near you!

It’s the NessAlla Way One benefit to starting your own business is the opportunity to run things in whatever manner you see fit. [The flipside to that coin is that the days of stewing over your stupid boss and their stupid policies are over because, well, you’re the boss and those are your stupid rules.] Before NessAlla Kombucha was even a thing, we saw the value in respecting the environment and the imperative need for proactively protecting our natural resources. You know, Captain Planet stuff, but for real. So when NessAlla Kombucha was in its planning stages, there was an intrinsic understanding that sustainability would be at the center of our operating philosophy. And with no higher-ups to object to that, we set out to make that happen. Our commitment to protecting the environment and preserving natural resources hasn’t waned over the years; if anything it may be stronger – and more necessary – than ever. To learn about the ways in which we put our values into action, check out the infographic and video below. One last thing: A long time ago, we made a choice to make business decisions that align with our values. When you
It is harvest season and there are so many things to choose from that it is hard to keep up. We often try to do new flavors, but we also like to use flavors that we know are amazing! Keep hitting those farmers markets, not only for your fresh produce but to get those rare flavors of NessAlla that are gone in a blink of an eye. Some flavors are direct from Vanessa and Alla’s yard. No kidding guys. You think we plan this stuff? We just look to see what’s over abundant in the garden ( this weeks Sumac, chili, lime. Lots of sumac and chilis) and BLAM! that’s what you get. Also, many of our summer specialties come from our wonderful partnership with Harmony Valley who has amazing organic produce (Watermelon). Then, often times, it’s a mix of what we get from the farm and what’s in the garden. Watermelon, Tulsi anyone? I seriously have so much Tulsi in my yard this year that I’m going to dry it and I’ll have a whole two cups of it to use in a future brew. That’s a joke because when you dry a large amount of herbs, you end
Is it really winter outside? Seems a bit warm. Come to the Market and stock up on some awesome Holiday flavors from NessAlla. We have Pomegranate Cardamom and Blueberry Shizandra. Yep, still have some of those flavors because we don’t think people are heading to the indoor market! Why? “Because it’s cold and I don’t wanna!!!” I get it. I barely want to leave the house for anything. I like to just hiss at the cold from the warm inside. I’m like a cat in winter. I just want a warm lap to curl up in and sleep all day. Like these two…..awwwww. They are friends…. You should still go to the market though, because you can pick up these flavors that very few others have. Then your other NessAlla drinking friends will be like, “hey! where did you get THAT?!” and you can be like, “I got myself to the East Side Madison Market at the Wil-Mar and got some. I also picked up some super awesome pickled stuff, some tea, local cheese, and baked stuff!” Then you guys can like, eat and drink and hang out. Then you plan for that person to pick up stuff next week
Hey folks! This week at the East Side Farmers Market we will have delicious Cardamom Ginger and Blueberry Schisandra. UGH!!! it’s times like these that I want to blabber about all the known health benefits of cardamom and schisandra. I want to tell you how people in China have been using these herbs for CENTURIES to treat common ailments! Of course we don’t want to say that this is what a certain herb will do for your body FOR SURE. We haven’t done the research, and oh yeah, guess what, they don’t like to fund those studies necessarily because there is not much money in it. All I can do is tell you how delicious these brews are and how they are perfect for your holiday gatherings. They are a great beverage all on their own as well as mixed up into a delightful cocktail! Cardamom has a sweet flavor similar to those of grapefruit and ginger. This spice also includes floral and soapy flavors, along with green notes and a cool menthol undertone. Mixed with ginger, this flavor is boosted and spiced up for a warming concoction. Schisandra is very interesting. Its Chinese name comes from the fact that
Halloween Kombucha special at the West Side Community Market! We have a delicious Carrot, Ginger and Turmeric infused kombucha. All of these lovely ingredients are fresh from Harmony Valley Farm and deeply infused into a rich Oolong Kombucha. Warming, stimulating and tantalizing, this brew is not to be forgotten quickly. Step out and grab something great for your body before you start stealing your kids candy. Happy Halloween!!
Yeah. You heard me. Watermelon! You need to thank Alla for it even being sold this year. We’ve been making it every summer for years and hoarding it all for ourselves and close friends. I said, “noooooooooooooo! It’s all for us! If they don’t even know about it, they won’t want it!’ Alla says, “we have to share the love, Vanessa.” and I said “Why?” while sobbing and clutching the vat of delicious watermelon infused nectar of the Gods. “Because we are good people and should share with our community.” she replied “FINE! But I’m taking my own case of it!” as I stomped away. So You guys get to have some Watermelon Kombucha. ONLY if you make it to the next couple of markets though, because it will be sold at the West Side Community Market from 7am-1pm this Saturday in the DMV parking lot on the West Side. ( I know it sounds shady….”uuugggh, I got some booch for ye in the back of this spray painted Subaru”) It’s a totally legit market. Look! There’s even a website… Also, if we don’t sell out over there we will have it at the East Side one next week Tuesday.
Summer time is my favorite time for Shandies. NessAlla was fortunate enough to be featured in the Cap Times article non-traditional shandies. For about 3 years or more, I can’t remember when I started, I have been drinking kombucha with beer. 1/2 & 1/2. They are pretty much my two favorite beverages and so putting them together was a fun experiment that I have never ended. I have a tendency to enjoy the flavors of beers with a high alcohol content. MAN! WHY do they have the best taste? I can only drink like 2 or maybe 3 before I’m too toasted to form coherent intelligent sentences. That is, I think I can normally form coherent-ish sentences….hmmm Any who, I decided to add kombucha to these robust delicious brews and….oh man. That was it! For me, I found that when I did kombucha 1/2 & 1/2 with my beers I could drink more and still remain pretty cognizant. Plus it was delicious. I’m a hop head…yeah, yeah, I know some of you are over it, but I’m not. I do IPA’s, APA’s, and just about anything with a hop dominant with my booch. They go with just about any flavor.
