Celebrating Our 10 Year Anniversary With A New Look

In case you didn’t know (or forgot, in which case consider this a friendly reminder), NessAlla Kombucha celebrates its tenth trip around the Sun this year. Since setting out on that voyage, we’ve undergone tremendous growth and change. Vanessa and Alla wanted to communicate this transformation with a new identity. Whole Lotta Love The updated logotype is a nod to poster design and lettering from the 1920s and 1970s with a dash of inspiration from soft-drink and beer logos. It’s a Living Thing Boochie – aka the NessAlla “mascot” – received a makeover. She’s still ecstatic, bold and welcoming, but updated with a more realistic human figure. After all, kombucha is a living thing, and Boochie is too. She’s a Rainbow NessAlla Kombucha has always been loud and proud. Our new labels feature bold design elements and vibrant colorways. When lined up on store shelves in rainbow formation, the NessAlla Kombucha bottles jump out and catch one’s eye. Look for the new bottles at a grocery store or co-op near you!

East Side Indoor Farmers’ Market 12/8

Is it really winter outside? Seems a bit warm. Come to the Market and stock up on some awesome Holiday flavors from NessAlla. We have Pomegranate Cardamom and Blueberry Shizandra. Yep, still have some of those flavors because we don’t think people are heading to the indoor market! Why? “Because it’s cold and I don’t wanna!!!” I get it. I barely want to leave the house for anything. I like to just hiss at the cold from the warm inside. I’m like a cat in winter. I just want a warm lap to curl up in and sleep all day. Like these two…..awwwww. They are friends…. You should still go to the market though, because you can pick up these flavors that very few others have. Then your other NessAlla drinking friends will be like, “hey! where did you get THAT?!” and you can be like, “I got myself to the East Side Madison Market at the Wil-Mar and got some. I also picked up some super awesome pickled stuff, some tea, local cheese, and baked stuff!” Then you guys can like, eat and drink and hang out. It’s already December guys. For real. Eeesh! Well, to hop on the ‘ol buy local train, NessAlla encourages you to BUY LOCAL this Holiday season. Which means, yes! Buy some NessAlla to bring to your next gathering or give to your Kombucha addicted friend. We have some very special flavors that can only be found at the East Side Farmers Market, Tuesdays at the Wil-Mar center in Madison, wi from 4pm-7pm. This week we have Blueberry Shisandra and Pomegranate Cardamom. Sooooooo good! BOTH of them. Seriously. These flavors are great to mix into cocktails and to have with holiday meals or just by themselves! Here are some recipes to play with! Schizandra Collins by Patrick Langley at A-OK Sunshine & Spirits In a cocktail tin add: .75 oz of Deaths Door Gin  .75 oz of Luxardo Maraschino .75 oz Green Chartreuse .75 oz Lime Juice shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice in a 10oz Collins glass. East Side Farmers Market!!

Hey folks! This week at the East Side Farmers Market we will have delicious Cardamom Ginger and Blueberry Schisandra. UGH!!! it’s times like these that I want to blabber about all the known health benefits of cardamom and schisandra. I want to tell you how people in China have been using these herbs for CENTURIES to treat common ailments! Of course we don’t want to say that this is what a certain herb will do for your body FOR SURE. We haven’t done the research, and oh yeah, guess what, they don’t like to fund those studies necessarily because there is not much money in it. All I can do is tell you how delicious these brews are and how they are perfect for your holiday gatherings. They are a great beverage all on their own as well as mixed up into a delightful cocktail! Cardamom has a sweet flavor similar to those of grapefruit and ginger. This spice also includes floral and soapy flavors, along with green notes and a cool menthol undertone. Summer Shandies with Kombucha!

Summer time is my favorite time for Shandies. NessAlla was fortunate enough to be featured in the Cap Times article non-traditional shandies. For about 3 years or more, I can’t remember when I started, I have been drinking kombucha with beer. 1/2 & 1/2. They are pretty much my two favorite beverages and so putting them together was a fun experiment that I have never ended. I have a tendency to enjoy the flavors of beers with a high alcohol content. MAN! WHY do they have the best taste? I can only drink like 2 or maybe 3 before I’m too toasted to form coherent intelligent sentences. That is, I think I can normally form coherent-ish sentences….hmmm Any who,  I decided to add kombucha to these robust delicious brews and….oh man. That was it! For me, I found that when I did kombucha 1/2 & 1/2 with my beers I could drink more and still remain pretty cognizant. Plus it was delicious. I’m a hop head…yeah, yeah, I know some of you are over it, but I’m not. I do IPA’s, APA’s, and just about anything with a hop dominant with my booch. They go with just about any flavor.

Tuesday Farmers Market! (Warning! Post contains swears)

Hi! How was your Monday? Mine was filled with managing willful children, sitting on hold for roughly 2 hours tossed around from operator to operator, errands and the dentist! So I’m f*^&ing great! You know what’s great about Mondays though? Tomorrow is Tuesday, and that is East Side market day.  Which means a new fresh, kick-ass, in-season NessAlla flavor that you can only find at two markets. This week, you can ONLY find it at the EAST Side Farmers Market on Jenny St. from 4pm-7 in the Wil-Mar parking lot…..not gonna be at the West Side community market, sorry… I know what your thinking…..”Why do they only sell these super special flavors at these tiny markets?” You know what I have to say to that? Stop your whining and go support some local farmers! Tiny markets are the BEST! Wanna know why? You can get all of the things you need from a big market in 1/4 of the time and have to deal with about 1/10 the amount of people. If you have kids, they can play on the jungle gym or shoot some hoops while you shop instead of whining at you to hurry up when you want

Genna’s 50th, Madison Cocktail Week, and Distill America 2015!! What a week!!

Whew!!! Just coming down from the super fun times that NessAlla had last week!! What a way to wrap up the month of February!!  We kicked off the first official Madison Cocktail Week with a huge 50th birthday bash for one of  Madison’s favorites-  Genna’s Cocktail Lounge. Folks flocked in from miles away and nearby to celebrate the long success of Genna’s. A Service Industry Happy Hour sponsored by NessAlla and William Grant & Sons featured guest Rock Star bartenders Grant Hurless from Death’s Door Spirits, and  Jeremy Bazely of Three Count Beverage.  I joined in on the craft cocktailery and  did some shaking and muddling and together the three of us crafted three awesome NessAlla kombucha cocktails featuring Tullamore Dew Whiskey, Montelobos Mezcal and Reyka Vodka mixed with fresh juices, handmade bitters and simple syrups. Revelers sipped on cocktails called “Kristi Tickles Me Pink”, “In A Pickle, Genna’s Will Do” and the “Post University Avenue Cosmo”. Stories of the 50 years of Genna’s were shared and thanks to the awesome party sounds by DJ Nick Nice dance floor got lots of action!! What an amazing, fun night!!
