Flavors of the Seasons and beyond!

It is harvest season and there are so many things to choose from that it is hard to keep up. We often try to do new flavors, but we also like to use flavors that we know are amazing! Keep hitting those farmers markets, not only for your fresh produce but to get those rare flavors of NessAlla that are gone in a blink of an eye. Some flavors are direct from Vanessa and Alla’s yard. No kidding guys. You think we plan this stuff? We just look to see what’s over abundant in the garden ( this weeks Sumac, chili, lime. Lots of sumac and chilis) and BLAM! that’s what you get. Also, many of our summer specialties come from our wonderful partnership with Harmony Valley who has amazing organic produce (Watermelon). _MG_6831

Then, often times, it’s a mix of what we get from the farm and what’s in the garden. Watermelon, Tulsi anyone?

I seriously have so much Tulsi in my yard this year that I’m going to dry it and I’ll have a whole two cups of it to use in a future brew. That’s a joke because when you dry a large amount of herbs, you end up with a much smaller amount. Much like when you decide to do things with tomatoes, like sauce, and you start with a butt load of ’em and then cook ’em down and you have like 2 quarts and you curse and scream about how much work you did to grow them and weed and harvest and cook and this is all you f*&^ing GET!!!??? Just me? Ya’ll are damn lucky I don’t make a tomato, kale kombucha. That would be a bad move.

We are also introducing a new Seasonal flavor this year, Turmeric, Ginger, Black Pepper. Black pepper brings out certain properties in the turmeric which I can’t tell you about because the FDA wants me to pay for that privilege. It’s ok though, because one day science will prove that a bunch of stuff hippies, naturalists, herbalists and Chinese medicine people have been doing for centuries actually work and have health and science merit. They just don’t do much testing on it because it doesn’t make the pharmaceutical ANY MONEY. Keeping people sick and addicted DOES! yay!! end rant.

So yes, we have a new Fall Seasonal coming out soon on the equinox, ( yes, we align with the seasons, surprised? I didn’t think so.) It is Turmeric heavy because Turmeric is super rad. You should look it up and learn about it. Plus ginger does that thing that is great and this is the first time we are working with the magic of black pepper. *magic sparkles*

Anywho, pay attention in the coming weeks to the array of flavors and excitement at the markets because we are at the end of market days soon. Soak up that cool air, and enjoy being outside. It’s about to get stupid cold and we all know what that means…more snarky blogs from NessAlla.
