It is officially Fall y’all. I’m honestly kind of bummed as I am not a fan of the cold months. Fall is fine, but it beckons to winter which I do not look forward to at all mostly because I like being a grubby lady with my hands in the dirt and sweat running down my brow.

Alright, alright. Let’s be positive! Boots, hats, beautiful leaves and crisp days filled with blue skies! Scarves are fun too. We are now looking for things to warm us up instead of cooling us down. People will at this point start to turn away from Kombucha as it is a chilled beverage. However, our Fall seasonal is anything but cooling. Lemon, Turmeric, Ginger speaks in invigorating, stimulating and warming tones. The colors are absolutely all fall and the combination will bring you spicy earthiness to warm your body and soul.

Our Turmeric is new this year. We are now getting it exclusively through Rishi who gets it from Guatemala.

This is everything you need to know about our awesome new Turmeric from Rishi and also a testament to why we continue to work with them…

We are super excited to continue this Turmeric project into the second year after much success with its conception in 2015.

 

In many municipalities in Guatemala, Turmeric has been growing wild and thriving for over 50 years, after German farmers transported root stocks in hopes to expose these regions for harvesting and processing turmeric as a cash crop for export, with its ideal growing conditions.

 

Many of these start up projects were short lived and up until last year much of the plantations were abandoned, allowing remnant crops growing wild in the elements.

 

After Rishi buyers visited many of these certified organic growing regions of Turmeric with our partners of Cardamom, which we’ve had an enduring relationship  with for over seven years, our goal was to resurrect these Turmeric farms and help to support local farmers with supplemental incomes during and after Cardamom season is completed.

 

The response has been so well received from the producers (consisting mainly of the K’ekchi tribe) in these areas, that additional plots will be allocated for a Turmeric nursery near the Cardamom regions north of Coban to accommodate the growth moving into 2016.

 

In many of these communities, the health and education standards are very poor for children and adult alike. Rishi Tea will be taking an initiative this year to help support and provide a portion of funds, giving back to these communities in order for children to obtain the supplies and tuitions they need to attend primary schooling.

 

Rishi Tea is dedicated to the sustainability and success of this project. So much so, that we’ll be traveling to these regions multiple times before the years end to nurture and strengthen the trust in the producer groups so we can assure them an enduring relationship for many years.
